Online Permit Test

Posted Date: 6/13/24 (1:38 PM)

Oregon DMV encourages students to take their knowledge test online this summer

The at-home test can significantly reduce time spent at a DMV office.

Summer break is a great time for students preparing to get their driver instruction permit to take their Oregon DMV knowledge test online. Students needing to take a knowledge test may complete this requirement in English and Spanish at home before visiting a DMV office. The test will be available in more languages later this summer, check our website for more updates!

To take advantage of this opportunity:

  • Students need a laptop or a computer with a webcam, keyboard, mouse, and reliable internet.
  • Students under 18 will need someone 21 or older to supervise them taking the test.
  • After students pass the knowledge test online, they will need to visit their local DMV office with the necessary identity documents to complete their application for their permit.

Why take the test online?

Testing online lets students test in a familiar and comfortable environment without the pressure of being at an office. Once they pass the test, they can confidently come to a DMV office knowing they've met the testing requirement and apply for their permit. This can save multiple trips to the DMV.
