Thomas Joseph, Ed.D. started teaching language arts to 8th graders in 1994 in St. Charles, Illinois. He has taught students ranging from 6th grade through the doctoral level, in subjects such as English and Social Studies on the secondary level, and several post-secondary/graduate level courses such as Learning Theory and Application, Psycho/Social Foundations of Education, Middle School Curriculum Development and Methods, and Ethics, Morality and Being Human. He was also a proud member of the Baker Technical Institute Admin and Instructional Staff for several years.

“Dr J” (as his undergraduates dubbed him) came to Baker City in 2014, where his niece and nephew have gone to school their whole lives, and his brother and parents call home today. “Tom” is what he prefers adults call him, and he is only slightly embarrassed to be the oldest member of the admin team with 32 years of total experience, 7 on the administrative side.

Tom holds a BA in English, an MA in Educational Leadership, and an Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences over his career, such as the National Association of Gifted Students in Atlanta, GA, a keynote delivery on Democratic ideals in Education before the John Dewey Society in Ontario, Canada, and a pre-dissertation defense of his research at the World Phenomenology Institute, Harvard University. Tom Joseph is a strong advocate for students he feels education often overlooks or, at times, completely underserves. In his spare time, he enjoys playing guitar and traveling; he hopes to retire abroad one day.
